Chanel S.A. is a fashion house that originated in France and was founded in 1910 by Gabrielle Chanel (called “Coco” by friends). Chanel revolutionized fashion with her simple, elegant, timeless designs. She was one of the first designers to introduce trousers to women, and is widely credited as the creator of the fashion staple “the little black dress.” Madame Chanel maintained creative control of the design company until her death in 1971. Karl Lagerfeld took over as chief designer in 1983. It began in 1921 when Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel was already ruling the Parisian fashion world. Created by the Russian perfumer for the Tsar, Ernest Beaux, the name of Chanel’s first perfume is said to come from her superstitious belief in the virtues of the number five. She apparently chose the fifth sample Beaux gave her and the simple name stuck. This was the first time the fashion house had created a perfume and it quickly became a huge success. At the same time, Chanel began to expand and move into the world launching a line of cosmetics (in 1924) and a range of skin care products (in 1929). Designer Chanel has 54 fragrances in our fragrance base. Chanel is an old perfume house. The first version was created in 1920 and the latest from 2013.
